Dickies is one of the few companies in the clothing industry that has survived for over a hundred years and remained true to itself. Founded in 1922 in Texas, the brand started as a manufacturer of durable workwear for miners, builders, and farmers. The main principle was that clothing should withstand the toughest work and still look decent after the end of a shift.
The famous 874 pants are the heart of the brand and arguably the most successful work pant model in American history. They were chosen by 80s skaters (because they don't tear), punks (because they're cheap and durable), and 90s rappers (because Tupac and Biggie wore them). Dickies did something rare: they didn't try to be fashionable – and fashion came to them. Collaborations with Thrasher Magazine and other streetwear brands confirmed: Dickies is a cultural artifact.
