Veja is a French sneaker brand founded in 2004 in Paris by Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion. Both founders came from the non-profit sector and posed a question that no one in the industry was asking at the time: Can sneakers be made without harming people or the planet?
Veja's answer: yes, but it requires a complete overhaul of the supply chain. The cotton for Veja is organically grown by farmers in Brazil who receive a fair price. The rubber for the soles is natural, from the Amazon rainforest, where latex collectors earn double the market rate. No advertising: Veja spends nothing on marketing – the entire budget goes into production and ethical sourcing. Despite this, the price of the sneakers remains affordable.
Veja has become a cultural phenomenon without traditional marketing – through celebrity Instagrams, magazine editorials, and word-of-mouth. Meghan Markle, Emma Watson, Bella Hadid – the brand is worn by those who consciously choose values over a logo.
