Klättermusen is a Swedish brand founded in 1975 by a group of local mountaineers in the mountain village of Åre. Initially, it was a small workshop for creating mountaineering and hiking gear, which later grew into a full-fledged brand. The name translates from Swedish as "mountain mouse" and is taken from a classic children's fairy tale. Such a simple and ironic name was chosen so that items would be valued for their functionality, not for fashion.
Klättermusen is created for those who go to the mountains, so the brand's clothing withstands the most extreme weather conditions. The design features a multitude of functional details: reflective elements, ventilation panels, waterproof zippers, and special adjusters. Models are often named after characters from Norse mythology, emphasizing the connection to Northern culture.
Sustainability is one of the brand's key principles. Klättermusen's slogan is: "Maximum safety for you, minimal impact on nature." It was one of the first outdoor brands in the world to switch to using recycled materials, organic cotton, biodegradable fibers, and environmentally safe water-repellent coatings.
Klättermusen products are tested by true extremists – mountaineers, climbers, skiers, and travelers – to ensure the brand's items perform even where nature is stronger than humans.
