Veja's answer: yes, but it requires a complete overhaul of the supply chain. The cotton for Veja is organically grown by farmers in Brazil who receive a fair price. The rubber for the soles is natural, from the Amazon rainforest, where latex collectors earn double the market rate. No advertising: Veja spends nothing on marketing – the entire budget goes into production and ethical sourcing. Despite this, the price of the sneakers remains affordable.
